01The swim top
Eight rash guards, every one rated UPF 50+: long-sleeved with a zip front and two pockets, long-sleeved without a zip, short-sleeved, sleeveless with no padding, and a cropped one.
Colourways on this page: Aqua, Black / Dark Grey, Black / Sky Blue, Fuchsia, Navy / Vivid Blue, Black, Leaf, White, and 49 more.
A rash guard is a swim top with sleeves, cut close so it does not balloon in the water, and eight of ours answer to the name. The zip-front long-sleeve family is the one with the largest pool of ratings on this page: a zip you can open on the beach, two pockets, and a high neck. Beside it sit the plain long-sleeve rash guards, a short-sleeved one with a colour-blocked body, a sleeveless one with no padding at all, and a cropped one that ends at the waist.
All eight print UPF 50+ on the label, and the long-sleeved ones cover the most skin, which is what the American Academy of Dermatology asks of sun clothing before it asks anything else. Sizes run XS to 3XL on most cards. A rash guard is meant to sit close, so take your usual letter for swimming; if you want it as a beach shirt over a swimsuit, take one up.

02About these pieces
The swim top
Not for swimming: a rash guard that sits close stays put in a wave and dries against the skin, and the zip-front family opens if it feels tight at the neck. For wearing over a swimsuit as cover, one letter up gives you the room. Buyers who write in about fit are split exactly along that line.
No. None of the eight has a pad or a shelf bra, and the sleeveless one says so in its name. Wear a swim top underneath if you want one; the zip-front rash guard is cut with enough room for it.
The long-sleeved ones with the high neck, and among them the zip-front family, which also has the pockets. Covering skin is the first thing the dermatology source on this page recommends, ahead of the UPF number itself; the cropped and sleeveless rash guards cover the least.
