A UPF figure is to cloth what an SPF figure is to sunscreen: UPF 50 means the dry, unstretched fabric lets one fiftieth of the sun's UV through, and 50 is the floor the Skin Cancer Foundation sets for its seal. More than fifty pieces in the range print UPF 50+ on the label, and this page holds all of them: the hiking and golf shorts, the swim skirts, swim shorts and rash guards, the golf polos, the UPF tees and long-sleeve tops, the sun hoodies and cardigan, and the two cargo skorts.

The figure has limits, and we print them beside it. It describes dry cloth: a rash guard that is soaked or a tee that is sweated through lets more sun in, and a pair of shorts stretched tight over a thigh lets in more than one hanging loose. It covers the skin under the cloth and nothing past the hem or the cuff. And it is not a substitute for shade or sunscreen on the parts it does not cover; the American Academy of Dermatology puts covering up first and the UPF label second. Read the sources under this page before you rely on the figure.

Questions about SANTINY UPF 50+ Clothing

Everything with the figure on the label

What does UPF 50+ on a SANTINY label mean for your skin?

That the dry cloth lets one fiftieth of the sun's UV through, the top band on the Skin Cancer Foundation's scale and the figure the American Academy of Dermatology recommends looking for on a label. It applies to the skin under the garment; the rest of you still wants shade or sunscreen, and the sources on this page say so.

Does a SANTINY UPF 50+ tee still protect you when it is wet with sweat?

Less. The figure is measured on dry cloth, and the Skin Cancer Foundation writes that a garment that "gets stretched or wet" loses some of its protective ability; a white cotton T-shirt drops from about UPF 7 dry to 3 wet in its example. Our tees are a synthetic knit rather than cotton, but the direction is the same, and no label carries a wet figure.

Which SANTINY pieces carry UPF 50+ and which do not?

The hiking and golf shorts, the swim shelf, the polos, the UPF tees and long-sleeve tops, the sun layers and the cargo skorts carry it, and the card prints "UPF 50+" where the label does. The tank tops, the fleece-lined pieces, the joggers and most of the tennis skirts do not, and their cards print nothing about sun.
