Twenty pieces are made for the water, and they divide by what they cover. Below the waist: six swim skirts with a pair of swim shorts sewn in and a pocket for a key, at 15, 17 and 18 inches, and two board-style swim shorts at 8 and 12 inches with a liner. Above it: eight rash guards, long-sleeved with a zip front and two pockets, short-sleeved, sleeveless and cropped. And for the walk back: a sun hoodie, a zip-up sun hoodie, a sun cardigan with pockets and a lightweight sun shirt.

Every piece on this page prints UPF 50+ on its label, which means the dry cloth lets one fiftieth of the sun's UV through and is the floor the Skin Cancer Foundation sets for its seal. A wet rash guard lets more through, and a stretched one lets more still; the sources under this page say so, and we repeat it rather than round it up. Sizes run XS to 3XL on most cards and S to 4XL on the swim shorts. Take a rash guard in your usual letter for swimming and one up for the beach.

Which SANTINY swim piece should you buy for a pool with your kids?

The pocket swim skirt: it has the largest pool of ratings on the shelf, the shorts underneath keep it in place when you climb out, and the pocket holds a locker key. Add the zip-front rash guard if you spend the afternoon in the water rather than beside it.

Does SANTINY swimwear keep its UPF 50+ when you are wet?

Not all of it. A UPF figure is measured on dry, unstretched cloth; the Skin Cancer Foundation writes that a garment that "gets stretched or wet" loses some of its protective ability, and the American Academy of Dermatology says dry clothing protects more than wet. The figure on the label is the dry figure, and we print it as that.

Are SANTINY swim skirts lined?

Every swim skirt has a pair of swim shorts sewn in underneath, which is what the card means by a built-in liner; the skirt itself is a single layer over them. The swim shorts have a brief-style liner. None of the rash guards is padded.
