These are the lightest shorts on the site and the shortest. Seven of the ten have a liner sewn in, so there is a brief under the short and nothing to buy separately; all ten carry a zip pocket, most of them at the back of the waistband where a key does not bounce. The 2-in-1 pairs put a fitted short under a loose one and are the pair people buy for a gym as much as a road. The cloth is a quick-dry woven on most cards, cut high at the waist.

The inseam runs from 3 inches, which is a racing length, through 3.5, 4 and 5 to a 7-inch pair that ends mid-thigh. The zip-pocket family with the largest pool of ratings comes in the widest colour choice on the page, more than twenty at our last update. Sizes run XS to 2XL, and one pair is cut for girls. Between two letters, take the smaller: a running short that sits close stays put, and a liner that is loose chafes.
