A bermuda short ends at the knee, and that is the whole reason people buy one: a walk in heat, a flight, a day of errands, an office that allows shorts in summer. Ten of ours answer to the name. The pocketed bermuda with the largest pool of ratings on the shorts shelf is the one to start with, at 12 inches with three zip pockets; the 14 and 15-inch pairs reach the knee on most heights; the 9-inch pair with four pockets is a shorter cousin; and one pair is pleated at the front for a walk into town.

The cloth is a stretch woven that holds its shape sitting down, with a drawstring at the waist on two families and a flat high waistband on the rest. Sizes run S to 3XL on most cards, XS on a few, and the 12-inch pair comes in the widest colour choice. Between two letters, take the larger if you sit in them for hours: a bermuda pulls across the thigh sitting down more than a short does.
